Reasons to impeach Bush & Co.
I had hoped to fill this out a bit and do some research on each of these points, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get to it . . . .
1. Bush was never elected to begin with
a. Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris "scrubbed" eligible voters from voter rolls
b. Supreme Court interferes with recount in Florida, which would have shown Gore the winner if conducted fairly and thoroughly
2. 9/11 failures
a. upon coming into office Bush administration was told their number one issue would be Al-Queda related terrorism; instead, Attorney-General Ashcroft's top priority was prostitution and pornography
b. President received warning briefing in 8/01 about Bin Laden determined to strike in U.S.; Bush stays on vacation
c. no explanation of why Air Force jets weren't scrambled to investigate planes; refusal to fully comply with 9/11 commission's investigation
d. Bush vows to capture Bin Laden "dead or alive"; instead, Bush has diverted attention to Iraq
3. Lied us into war with Iraq
a. continually strove to link Saddam Hussein to 9/11
b. Downing Street papers show Bush intended to "fix" intelligence
c. no weapons of mass destruction (despite Sec. of Defense Rumsfeld's assertion that we know where the weapons are and VP Cheney's claim that there is "no doubt" that Hussein has resumed his nuclear weapons program)
4. Leaked identification of a CIA operative: it's a "two-fur"--Plame is an agent on non-proliferation issues in Iran; her husband Wilson challenged reason for going to war in Iraq
5. Bungled Aftermath of Iraq War
a. assumed we would be greeted as liberators with flowers and chocolates so radically under-deployed troops, which allowed for wide-spread looting
b. fueled insurgency by not fixing crucial infrastructure issues, such as electricity and clean water
6. Violation of FISA law
a. monitoring of ALL phones is unacceptable
7. Infringement of human rights
a. Guantanamo detainess in prison for years without trial
b. secret prison facilities in Eastern Europe
8. Corporate Cronyism
a. banking, pharamaceutical and petroleum industries all invited to write legislation pertaining to their business
b. executives in areas to be regulated by Federal agencies placed in charge of the same industries, such as the agency supposed to enforce mine safety
c. Michael Brown (see #12)
9. No Interest in Science of the "Reality-Based" community
a. administration official edited NASA scientist's report to downplay global warming
b. ban on stem-cell research
c. presuure placed on FDA not to approve morning after pill
d. pushes heavily for abstinence only sex ed programs when there's evidence these programs don't work
10. Personal Qualities
a. extreme arrogance; refusal to admit mistakes/problems
b. pugilisitc stance
c. no intellectual curiosity
11. Fostered Us vs. Them Feeling in country and wider world
12. Katrina
13. No oversight of Congress: just as Congress has not investigated problems in administration, the administration has not had Justice Department to investigate Congressional corruption and involvement with shady lobbyists; has never vetoed a Congressional action
14. Manipulation of News Media
a. release bad news on Friday afternoon for optimal positioning in weekly news cycle
15. Economic Issues
a. Tax cuts massively favor wealthy and ultra-wealthy at expense of average working Americans
b. Budget deficeits threaten continued viaibility of crucial Federal programs
